Wednesday on disaster relief
November 18th, 2010What a day! We think we are going to be doing one thing, hanging drywall, and low and behold– no drywall again! But what happens? The nuns give a call and we come a running. We were able to help some nuns move a couple into a brand new renovated house. This couple had been living in this house gutted with no running water for the last 3 years. He was a handicapped person who became handicapped after Katrina. Both were artists. It was a moving experience to actually put faces and persons with names to this tragedy and actually be able to help in a very small way.
After a strenuous day- others did do drywall and insulation, we went down into the downtown of New Orleans. What food, what culture, what begneit’s!!! Huh Linda?
Another day in the life of disaster relief
November 17th, 2010What the drywall is still not here?
Dale- “You mean I have to “roll” the window down?” (no power windows in the disaster truck)
Gary- “Code doesn’t let you…” Our 21 year old site supervisor- “Do it anyway…”
Lets measure that drywall one more time… It still doesn’t fit??? We cut it off twice and its still too short!
Its ‘Taco Tuesday’!!!
NaOrlens! Tonight we are going downtown to sin city.

November 15th, 2010What a day of work! A bit of rain- we were able to work inside with insulation… Duane the Birthday boy really liked his #%@@ fine sandwich. How about stapling your hand Duane?
Looking at some bad weather tonight but the Brethren will survive! Dale found ways to make the disaster relief expedient. Lots of laughs. Do you have questions?
Down in Chalmette
November 15th, 2010For most of the group this is not the first time here. Numerous comments of “Wow, this is great”, were to be heard as we were driving into the St. Bernard Parish. Stores are starting to come back, businesses are starting to get their shops going again or just starting up since the hurricane. Tony’s the restaurant from tonight was great. It was like going into another culture. The Gumbo was Super. More tomorrow– if the internet works.

Every one pitched in to help, every one ate and every one had a great time! This is church! Thank you to all who made this a cold, creamy, smooth event!
